孫寧在25日的發(fā)布會(huì )上將王冕的詩(shī)句“不要人夸顏色好，只留清氣滿(mǎn)乾坤”譯為:
Not angling for compliments, I'd be content that my integrity fills the universe.
后臺不少朋友頗有微詞，認為譯文丟掉了詩(shī)情畫(huà)意和借物言情的暗喻手法。美國詩(shī)人Robert Frost說(shuō)“Poetry is what gets lost in translation”。
詩(shī)的前兩句說(shuō)的是梅花淡雅，“吾家洗硯池邊樹(shù)，朵朵花開(kāi)淡墨痕”，顏色并不艷麗，卻清香滿(mǎn)園，沁人心脾。比喻不求外表翩翩（skin-deep）但求君子如玉。還有讀者說(shuō)，“滿(mǎn)乾坤”其實(shí)說(shuō)的是個(gè)人的“小宇宙”，并非真的是universe……詩(shī)無(wú)達詁，譯無(wú)定本，譯詩(shī)則更是仁者智者之事。
我自己也試著(zhù)譯一個(gè)，不堪與官方媲美，只供參考討論，英文學(xué)習者勿信，免得誤人子弟。

顯然孫寧的譯本表達了“修身齊家治國平天下”的儒家正統理想，拙作更像“喝下這碗心靈雞湯”。
漢英翻譯遠難于英漢翻譯，既因為我們不是英語(yǔ)母語(yǔ)讀者，更因為我們其實(shí)也不了解漢語(yǔ)。
昨天官媒播發(fā)《新一屆中共中央委員會(huì )和中共中央紀律檢查委員會(huì )誕生記》，其中又有許多讓譯者抓耳撓腮卻又欲罷不能的說(shuō)法。例如這句：
對黨中央決策部署態(tài)度曖昧甚至心懷不滿(mǎn)、另搞一套的，一票否決；骨頭不硬、見(jiàn)風(fēng)使舵、愛(ài)惜羽毛、當所謂“開(kāi)明紳士”、不敢擔當的，一票否決。
Anyone who equivocates, nurses grudges or set up his own kitchen in dealing with the Party's policies must be voted down. Any weak-kneed person, fence-sitter or 'yes-man' shirking respobsibilities for fear of getting tarnished must be voted down.
這是一個(gè)試譯版本，同樣不是標準，拋磚引玉，供人批判。

這大概是毛澤東曾經(jīng)說(shuō)過(guò)的話(huà)，字面意思是“I sit tight on my fishing boat, in spite of the wind and waves”。
