For often, achieving what you set out to do is not the important thing. Let me explain.
完成你經(jīng)常開(kāi)始要做的事可不是大事，讓我娓娓道來(lái)。
Two brothers decided to dig a deep hole behind their house. As they were working, a couple of older boys stopped by to watch.
有兄弟倆人決定在他們房子后面挖一個(gè)深洞。就在他們不停挖洞時(shí)，幾個(gè)年齡大點(diǎn)的男孩在附近停下來(lái)觀(guān)看。 "What are you doing?" asked one of the visitors.
“你們在做什么？”其中一個(gè)問(wèn)道。
"We plan to dig a hole all the way through the earth!" one of the brothers volunteered excitedly.
“我們計劃挖一個(gè)洞，一直穿過(guò)地球到達另一端！”兄弟倆中的一個(gè)興奮地搶先說(shuō)道。
The older boys began to laugh, telling the younger ones that digging a hole all the way through the earth was impossible.
這些大男孩開(kāi)始大笑，告訴這兩個(gè)兄弟挖洞穿過(guò)地球是不可能的。
After a long silence, one of the diggers picked up a jar full of spiders, worms and a wide assortment of insects. He removed the lid and showed the wonderful contents to the scoffing visitors.
長(cháng)長(cháng)的沉寂之后，其中一個(gè)挖掘者從洞里拿出一個(gè)裝滿(mǎn)蜘蛛、蠕蟲(chóng)和各種各樣昆蟲(chóng)的罐子，他打開(kāi)蓋子把這些奇妙的東西展示給那些嘲諷者看。 Then he said quietly and confidently, "Even if we don't dig all the way through the earth, look what we found along the way!"
然后他平靜而又自信地說(shuō)：“即使我們挖不到地球另一端，但看看我們途中發(fā)現的東西！”
Their goal was far too ambitious, but it did cause them to dig. And that is what a goal is for-to cause us to move in the direction we have chosen; in other words, to set us to digging!
他們的目標是太過(guò)于雄心勃勃了，但確實(shí)鼓勵他們去做了。而這就是目標之所在——使我們朝著(zhù)我們所選擇的方向前進(jìn)，換句話(huà)說(shuō)，就是讓我們去挖掘！
But not every goal will be fully achieved. Not every job will end successfully. Not every relationship will endure. Not every hope will come to pass. Not every love will last. Not every endeavor will be completed. Not every dream will be realized.
但不是每一個(gè)目標都會(huì )完全實(shí)現，也不是每一樣工作都能夠最終成功；不是每一種關(guān)系都能夠持久，也不是每一絲希望都能夠實(shí)現；不是每一次愛(ài)都能夠天長(cháng)地久，不是每一次努力都會(huì )碩果累累，也不是每一個(gè)夢(mèng)想都能夠實(shí)現。 But when you fall short of your aim, perhaps you can say, "Yes, but look at what I found along the way! Look at the wonderful things which have come into my life because I tried to do something!"
但當你沒(méi)有達到目標時(shí)，也許你可以說(shuō)：“是的，但看看我們途中所發(fā)現的東西！看看這些因為我盡力去做而走進(jìn)我生活的美妙東西！”
It is in the digging that life is lived. And I believe it is joy in the journey, in the end, that truly matters.
生命正是在挖掘的過(guò)程中才具有活力。而且我相信到最后真正要緊的還是過(guò)程中的樂(lè )趣。 |
