英語(yǔ)諺語(yǔ)是洋溢著(zhù)異國文化氣息的哲理性語(yǔ)言,是智慧的結晶。近年的高考英語(yǔ)試題中的諺語(yǔ)的出現頻率越來(lái)越高,它通常與情景交際題、閱讀理解等題型結合,用來(lái)提供情景或點(diǎn)明觀(guān)點(diǎn)主旨。在英語(yǔ)作文中適當引用一些諺語(yǔ)或名言,往往也會(huì )起到畫(huà)龍點(diǎn)睛的作用,為文章增光添彩。

下面筆者對高考英語(yǔ)??加⑽闹V語(yǔ)進(jìn)行簡(jiǎn)單的歸納總結,希望對2011屆考生備考能有所幫助。

1Better late than never. 遲做總比不做好。

2Easier said than done. 說(shuō)起來(lái)容易做起來(lái)難。

3Something is better than nothing. 有總比沒(méi)有好。

4Better safe than sorry. 安全比遺憾好。(事后追悔不如事前穩妥。)

5Two heads are better than one. 三個(gè)臭皮匠頂個(gè)諸葛亮。

6Actions speak louder than words. 行動(dòng)比言語(yǔ)更有說(shuō)服力。(事實(shí)勝于雄辯。)

7Health is better than wealth. 健康勝于財富。    

8The sooner begun, the sooner done. 開(kāi)始越早,完成得越早。

9Honesty is the best policy. 誠實(shí)總是上策。

10The best fish are / swim near the bottom.好魚(yú)居水底。(有價(jià)值的東西不能輕易得到。)

(注:以上諺語(yǔ)運用了形容詞或副詞的比較級、最高級。)

11Seeing is believing. 眼見(jiàn)為實(shí)。

12Saving is getting. 節約而后有。(節約就是獲得。)

13It is no use crying over spilt milk. 覆水難收。(打翻牛奶,哭也沒(méi)用。)

14A rising tide lifts all boats. 水漲眾船高。

15Time lost cannot be recalled. 光陰一去不復返。

16One is never too old to learn. 活到老,學(xué)到老。

17It’s never too late to mend. 改過(guò)遷善從不嫌晚。(亡羊補牢,未為遲也。)

18To stand still is to move back. 逆水行舟,不進(jìn)則退。

19To live is to learn, to learn is to better live. 活著(zhù)為了學(xué)習,學(xué)習為了更好的活著(zhù)。

20Live not to eat, but eat to live. 活著(zhù)不是為了吃飯,吃飯為了活著(zhù)。

(注:以上諺語(yǔ)運用了非謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞。)

21All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. 只工作/學(xué)習不玩耍,聰明孩子也變傻。

22Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

      早起早睡使你健康、富裕、聰明。

23You may take a horse to the water, but you cannot make him drink.

      領(lǐng)馬河邊易,逼馬飲水難。(不要逼人做不愿做的事。)

24Money makes the mare go. 有錢(qián)能使鬼推磨。

25An apple a day keeps the doctor away. 多吃水果利健康。(一天一蘋(píng)果醫生遠離我。)

(注:以上諺語(yǔ)運用了“make/keep+ O.+ O.C.”結構。)

26All that glitters is not gold. / All is not gold that glitters. 閃光的并非都是金子。

27All that dogs bark at are not thieves. / All are not thieves that dogs bark at.

      狗吠者未必是賊。(勿以貌取人。)

28Every couple is not a pair. / Not every couple is a pair. 成雙未必能配對。

(注:以上諺語(yǔ)運用了部分否定結構。)

29It is the early bird that catches the worm. 早出的鳥(niǎo)兒吃到蟲(chóng)。(疾足者先得。)

30It’s a long lane that has no turning.否極泰來(lái)。

      路必有彎,事必有變。(沒(méi)有彎曲的路真長(cháng)。)/(不順是暫時(shí),轉機定出現。)

31It is love that makes the world go round. 愛(ài)使世界更美好。

32It is a good horse that never stumbles, and a good wife that never grumbles.

      良馬會(huì )失蹄,賢妻有牢騷。

(注:以上諺語(yǔ)運用了強調句型。)

33Never put off till tomorrow. 今日事,今日做。(今日事,今日畢。)

34An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. 以眼還眼,以牙還牙。

35A fall into the pit, a gain in your wit.吃一塹,長(cháng)一智。

36Once bitten, twice shy. 一朝被蛇咬,十年怕井繩。(一次上當,下次小心。)

37Out of sight, out of mind. 眼不見(jiàn),心不想。(不見(jiàn)就忘。)/(離久情疏。)

38Waste not, want not. 不浪費,不愁缺。

39No pains, no gains. 不勞無(wú)獲。

53God helps those who help themselves. 天助自助者。

54Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

         家居玻璃房,切忌亂扔石。(自己有弱點(diǎn),勿揭他人短。)

55He that corrects not small faults will not control great ones. 小錯不糾,大錯難控。

(注:以上諺語(yǔ)運用了定語(yǔ)從句。)

56When in Rome do as the Romans do. 入境問(wèn)俗。(入鄉隨俗。)

57Strike while the iron is hot. 趁熱打鐵。
