點(diǎn)菜就餐的典型次序是：找一張桌子坐下－看菜單－點(diǎn)菜－付錢(qián)－離開(kāi)。英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言的表達基本上也是依照次順序。“訂餐”在英文中有兩種說(shuō)法，即to book a table 和make a reservation．在英國以及在其它很多國家，餐廳一般劃分為吸煙區和非吸煙區。一進(jìn)餐廳，服務(wù)員會(huì )主動(dòng)征詢(xún)客人的意見(jiàn)，然后引領(lǐng)客人前往所選擇的區域就餐。

在西餐廳就餐，菜單一般由三類(lèi)不同的菜別組成。the first course或者starters是指第一道菜，往往是湯、一小碟色拉或其它小吃。第二道菜是主菜，fish and chips是魚(yú)和炸土豆條，它同“roast beef and york shir pudding——牛肉布丁”、“shepherd spie——牧羊人的餡餅”一樣，都是典型的英國傳統菜肴。最后一道是甜食——或冷或熱，但都是甜的。西方飲食習慣是先吃咸的，后吃甜的。西餐菜單名目繁多，有時(shí)不易讀懂。遇到這種情況，可以請服務(wù)員解釋一下。
